Outcomes
Educational Support: For three years BGCM have been tracking report cards over multiple grading periods for 532 children. In the areas of reading, math, science and overall academic performance from one semester to another:
- 37% improved overall academic standing
- 18-25% improved their grades in one or more subjects
- 50-70% maintained ‘C’ level grades or better
- 10-13% fell further behind in two or more subjects
Note: Of those children who showed grade improvements 78% attended the Club 2 – 3 times or more per week.
Preparation for Work: At our North Club 75 teens participate in a two year special version of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s CareerLaunch program. Case files containing pre, post and periodic testing reveal:
- 100% know that honesty, integrity and ethics are important in keeping a job
- 98% know how to complete an application
- 90% responded ‘Very True’ to statement, “I need to finish school to get a good job”
- 36% have had a part time job
Delinquency Prevention: Over a 12 month period 3,808 juveniles were arrested by the Omaha Police Department. Except for the youth referred to us by the juvenile court:
- Only 9 were Boys & Girls Club members
- None of our 223 Teens who average 2-3 times per week or more were arrested
At Risk Youth: 111 truant teens were referred to the Club by the Juvenile Court. Another 145 youth were a part of our Gang Prevention and Intervention case loads.
- Of these 256 at risk you, only 9% reoffended over a two year period
