Targeted Outreach Strategic Approaches
In response to the number of youth gangs growing in cities and expanding to suburban and rural communities, Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands has implemented a special gang prevention and intervention initiative targeting youth ages 6 to18. Through referrals from schools, courts, law enforcement and community youth service agencies, the tested and proven Targeted Outreach program identifies and recruits delinquent youth, or those “at risk” of delinquency, into ongoing Club programs and activities.
Partnership for Youth Development
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands has partnered with Goodwill of Omaha to bring Partnership for Youth Development to Omaha’s youth. Partnership offers comprehensive education and vocational training opportunities as well as leadership, mentoring, counseling, and supportive services. Students earn incentives for attending tutoring sessions, increasing their basic skills, achieving a state recognized credential (high school diploma and/or GED). Compensation for work experience and on-the-job-training is available for those who qualify.

Truancy Abatement Program (TAP)
TAP is designed to confront the issue of truancy and juvenile crime in the Metro area by offering youth the opportunity to evaluate their potentially dangerous behavior. Using a comprehensive approach, TAP involves the student, their parents/guardians, school personnel and law enforcement with the resources available at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands. While at the Club, participants will have the opportunity to receive tutoring assistance and homework help, as well as life skills and technology orientation. Youth Service Specialists (YSS), located within the Boys & Girls Club, meet with students and parents to review school attendance records and discuss the factors that have led to truancy and problems in the classroom.
UPS Road Code
Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for U.S. teens, accounting for more than one in three teenage deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The UPS Foundation has partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) on a national program to teach safe driving techniques to teens – UPS Road CodeSM. This program is based in large part on the same safety training used with UPS’s own drivers.
Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands is proud to have been selected to receive a grant this year to implement UPS Road Code, bringing this critical life-saving initiative to our more than 154 teenagers at our Clubs.
